Quartz Sleeves

The Quartz Sleeve is a transparent tube of crystal clear glass that allows the germicidal UV wavelengths to transmit through the glass. Quartz sleeves are specially designed to be transparent to UV light and allow the passage of these UV rays. Quartz is a good transmitter of UV rays. The visible light wavelengths are longer, between 400 nm and 700 nm. Quartz will transmit UV from 180 nm to 400 nm.

Electronic UV Ballasts

The UVC lamps ballast ramps up the input voltage and has an output voltage high enough to spark the lamp. A ballast is needed due to the construction of the lamps, they have negative resistance between the two electrodes.
